Applications are invited for a two year full time postdoctoral post, with a possibility of a one-year extension, in Mathematics at the Mathematics Division of the Science Institute, University of Iceland.  The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in mathematics. The Mathematics Division is the forum for research in pure and applied mathematics, mathematical physics, and statistics at the University of Iceland.  Members of the Mathematics Division also teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Research in mathematics 
  • Participation in research projects and applications for research grants within the programme
  • Possible supervision of master's and doctoral students

Qualification requirements

  • A PhD degree in mathematics, or related fields, at the commencement of the appointment
  • An experience of conducting research in mathematics
  • Excellent skills in English, both spoken and written
  • Strong collaborative skills and good interpersonal abilities
  • Initiative and ability to work independently

Application process

It is desirable that no more than five years have elapsed from the appointee's completion of a doctorate to the commencement of the appointment, and will be able to take up the position on March 1st. 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

Significant consideration will be taken of how well the applicant's research fits with the research areas within the Mathematics Division (https://scienceinstitute.hi.is/is/research/mathematics_division)

Salaries are in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Association of University Teachers.
